At last I found some speed and made it count. I really used my carving, the drafting, made the right choices and that’s where it pays off." Huw Nightingale, a rider often described as a 'journeyman' compared to Bankes's established stardom, added: "It’s unbelievable. GB on a whole is doing great on the snowboard side. We can thank the National Lottery for that. We want to keep it going and inspire little kids to do it as well, and maybe one day they can get a gold medal."

While Bankes is a seasoned elite, Nightingale, though perhaps less decorated, proved his mettle. Together, they had already demonstrated their prowess by winning gold at the 2023 World Championships and a World Cup victory in December. In the final race, Nightingale's performance set the stage perfectly, leaving the French team just 0.14 seconds ahead. Italy was in third, and Australia unfortunately crashed out.
It was then Bankes's moment to shine. She strategically stayed behind Casta for much of the challenging course before unleashing her perfectly timed move, ultimately winning by a decisive 0.43 seconds over Italy.
